The health & safety bit: Whilst extremely beneficial for mild muscular & joint issues, stress & sleep problems, this is perhaps not the most sensible class to do if you are pregnant (there's a fair bit of lying on your belly), or have any serious medical problems.  Why not try a Therapeutic Yoga class instead?

The geeky bit: In this class we practice a modified version of the system of Dynamic Yoga developed by Godfrey Devereux, with whom I have been working for over 15 years. (See www.windfireyoga.com).  Dynamic Yoga gently releases deeply held patterns of muscular tension with simple, but not necessarily easy, wave like movements to increase our movement repertoire, thereby giving us more choices which means we are more able to let go of unhealthy habitual patterns of movement and reclaim the healthy functionality of our body so that we can enjoy daily life more.

Technically speaking, these wave like movements will soften muscles that are tight, yet strengthen muscles that are weak, mobilise joints that are stiff, yet provide support for hypermobile joints. These movements are gradually developed into dynamic, flowing sequences of postures to bring both mind & body to a state of harmonious balance.

Although they can be physically & mentally challenging for some people, these classes are safely rooted in the yogic concepts of sensitivity (ahimsa), honesty (satya) & understanding yourself (svadhyaya) to provide a safe & supportive framework within which you can explore your movement potential without pushing or force. Dynamic Yoga is suitable for people with all levels of yoga experience, from all yoga traditions wanting a safe & nourishing physical practice.
